So today was my first day interning at Details Magazine. Details is in the secondary Conde Nast building which is in mid-town. The ride in was a little long between the train and the subway. I got there a little early and had to wait for Jeanine to get there. Jeanine is a Visual Communications alumni who graduated I think about 7 years ago. Up until about 2 months ago, she was working at Teen Vogue (she was there all 7 years). So Details was on the 3rd floor. The magazine was split up between Editorial on one side, and Advertising on the other. I was working in Creative Services which is part of the Advertising department. The Promotional Art department consists of two people. It was very tiny. It was Jeanine (art director) and Jin (designer). Since the art department was so small my desk was kind of far from them, but this was okay. Everyone at the office is extremely nice and very welcoming. So I was introduced to everyone and got situated at my desk. My first project was working on an Event Recap for Details 2nd Annual Block Party. It was a 30 page powerpoint, that I had to design and organize. I also had to go through the 2008 magazines and take out all of the "promotion" pages. There was a cool machine used to bind presentations that I used to melt the spine of the magazine. This melted the glue and made ripping out the pages so easy! Jeanine asked me to have lunch with her today, so we went downstairs to the Conde Nast cafeteria in the building that was very good and convenient. Overall first day was great!
